WHAT IS IT WITH ALL THIS ANXIETY?!

“Worry less”, that’s easier said than done. “Let’s look on the positive side and try not to dwell on the negatives”, yeah right!

The beginning of a new year often brings a surge of pressure, expectation, and self-judgement. We’re bombarded with messages about fresh starts, new goals, big changes, and “new year, new you” thinking. While this can feel motivating for some, for many people it creates a perfect storm of anxiety. Financial worries after Christmas, returning to work routines, dark winter days, health goals, and the feeling that we should be doing better can all pile up. Sometimes it can all have an opposite effect and instead of feeling hopeful, people can feel overwhelmed, behind before they’ve even started, and stuck in unhelpful cycle of negativity. It’s no surprise that anxiety often spikes during this time — and it’s a powerful reminder to be kinder to ourselves and focus on realistic, achievable steps forward rather than instant transformation.

Anxiety has quietly become one of the most common challenges of modern life. It can affect as all at some point or other, nobody is immune and it hits people of all ages, backgrounds, and walks of life — whether you’re juggling work, studies, family life, or simply trying to keep all the plates spinning. For many, anxiety shows up as constant worry, racing thoughts, tension, poor sleep and waking in the middle of the night, or that familiar knot in the stomach that refuses to budge.

In small doses, anxiety is completely normal. It’s part of our built-in survival system that stems from the primitive area of our brain, designed to keep us alert and safe. But when anxiety becomes persistent, overwhelming, or starts interfering with everyday life, it can feel exhausting, frustrating, and at times, downright defeating and we sometimes feel like we’re in a cycle we just can’t get out of.

The good news? Anxiety is highly treatable — and as a  solution focused hypnotherapist I can help.

Anxiety is so common today because we live in a fast-paced world that rarely gives us time to slow down and just breathe. Constant notifications on smartphones or computers, work pressures, financial worries, health concerns, home life, and the never-ending comparison game on social media can leave our minds stuck in overdrive.

Our brains simply weren’t designed for this level of stimulation and stress. As a result, the nervous system can become overworked, keeping us locked in a state of constant alert. Over time, this can lead to chronic anxiety, panic attacks, phobias, sleep deprivation, low confidence, and burnout.

And to make things trickier, anxiety often feeds on itself. The more we worry about feeling anxious, the more anxious we become. A bit like trying to calm a fire by shouting at it. Spoiler: it doesn’t work.

What Is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?

As a solution focused hypnotherapist I combine practical, modern psychotherapy with the deeply relaxing power of hypnosis. Rather than digging endlessly into the past, it focuses on where you want to be and how to get there.

The approach is positive, forward-looking, and empowering. Sessions help you understand how your brain works, what’s maintaining your anxiety, and — crucially — how to gently retrain your mind to feel calmer, safer, and more in control.

Hypnosis part, what we call the trance, is itself  a natural, deeply relaxed state where the mind becomes more receptive to positive suggestions. It’s similar to that dreamy feeling just before falling asleep or when you’re totally absorbed in a good film,  or your mind wanders at the gym or on a run or even when you’re driving a regular route. In this state, the brain becomes far more open to helpful suggestion — making it easier to break unhelpful thought patterns and build healthier ones.

How Can Solution Focused Hypnotherapy Help Anxiety?

Solution focused hypnotherapy works on several levels:

1. Calming the nervous system
Hypnosis promotes deep relaxation, helping to switch off the stress response and activate the body’s natural calming system. This alone can significantly reduce physical symptoms such as tension, racing heart, and shallow breathing.

2. Breaking the anxiety cycle
Anxiety often runs on unhelpful thought loops: “What if…?”, “I can’t cope…”, “Something bad will happen…” Hypnotherapy helps interrupt these patterns and replace them with calmer, more supportive thinking.

3. Rebuilding confidence and control
As anxiety reduces, confidence naturally grows. Clients often report feeling more capable, resilient, and able to cope with situations that previously felt overwhelming.

4. Improving sleep and wellbeing
Better sleep, improved focus, increased motivation, and a general sense of wellbeing are common positive side effects — which most people are very happy to accept.

What Makes Solution Focused Hypnotherapy Different?

One of the biggest strengths of solution focused hypnotherapy is its gentle and non-invasive nature. There’s no pressure to relive distressing memories or analyse every detail of the past. Instead, the focus stays firmly on solutions, progress, and positive change.

Clients often describe sessions as relaxing, empowering, and surprisingly enjoyable. Yes — therapy that doesn’t feel like hard work. Who knew?

A Positive Path Forward

Living with anxiety doesn’t have to be your normal. With the right support, it’s entirely possible to retrain your mind, regain control, and feel calmer, more confident, and more at ease in everyday life.

Solution focused hypnotherapy offers a practical, uplifting, and effective way to move forward — helping you build resilience, reduce stress, and rediscover a sense of balance and wellbeing.

Because life is challenging enough already. Your mind shouldn’t have to be your toughest opponent.
